Programs

  

Whether you are interested in our classes for personal improvement or looking for a fun activity to keep you in shape, Ruyter's Academy Of Martial Arts offers a variety of programs fit for any need, age group or skill level.


Little Dragons
Classes for children ages 4-6 yrs old.

During these 30 minute classes, we will focus on the development of children’s concentration and coordination. Every activity the students participate in is safe, fun and exciting. Our goal is to maintain a very low student/teacher ratio to ensure every child gets the attention they need in order to progress

Our Little Dragon Classes feature:

  • Top Flight Instruction (maximum 6-1 student teacher ratio)
  • Clean and sanitary learning on Olympic style padded floors
  • Very strict no contact rule for students in this program
  • Opportunity to participate in school events and activities
  • Private extra help sessions if necessary
  • Flexible schedule (classes are offered 6 days a week for your convenience)
  • Two group classes each week, plus any make-up classes

Children's Program
Classes for children ages 7-13 yrs old.

In these 50 minute classes, students will be able to benefit from the mental and physical aspects of our program. Mentally: Students will learn the importance of self-control and respect. With their increased concentration, you will notice how the children’s program can improve your child’s ability to focus on daily tasks like school and homework. Physically: Student’s will develop practical self-defense skills to help protect them in any situation, boosting their self-esteem and self confidence.

Our Children's program feature:

  • All Classes divided by age and belt rank
  • Top Flight Instruction (maximum 8-1 student/teacher ratio)
  • Clean and sanitary learning on Olympic style padded floors
  • Opportunity to participate in school events/activities
  • Private extra help sessions if necessary
  • Flexible schedule (classes are offered 6 days per week for your convenience)
  • Two group classes each week, plus any makeup classes

Teen & Adult Program
Classes for teens & adults ages 14 and up.

Our adult classes will keep you coming back for more.  During our adult classes, you will quickly see improvement in your stamina and flexibility.  The work outs can vary from slow motion moves that can reduce stress, tone your body and increase balance level, to vigorous classes of bag work and drills giving you the increased energy to feel better everyday. In addition, you will learn practical and proven martial arts techniques that will give you the ability and confidence to protect yourself or your family if that time should ever surface.

Our Teen and Adult program features:

Private Lessons
Program suitable for all ages.

If you need tournament preparation, extra help for an exam or just reviewing your techniques, private lessons are a great way to supplement your classes.

Cardio Kickboxing
Program suited for teens and adults ages 14 & Up.

This high-energy workout done to the latest upbeat music, borrows moves from the Thai sport of kickboxing to make students work up a sweat. Combining specific punches and kicks, this 50 minute program gives it’s participants that “whole body workout”. With the mix of a few minutes of jumping rope and conditioning drills such as jumping jacks, sideways scooting steps and push-ups, it’s certain to give everyone a great workout alone or in conjunction with any workout routine.  Classes are held 9 different times throughout the week to ensure you get the workout you desire.

What are the benefits?

In these classes, if you do the punches with precision and power, you'll strengthen your upper body and eventually see more muscle definition. The kicks will strengthen your legs, especially the hamstrings (the muscles that run down the backs of your thighs). And the kneeing move (a strike in which you thrust your bent knee upward) will firm your abdominal muscles; in fact, all of the moves, when done correctly, will make your torso into a solid base that lets you do everyday tasks more easily - whether you're hoisting a heavy box into your attic crawl space or shoving open a window that always sticks.

Your cardiovascular system will benefit, too, though how much depends on the class. Some teachers offer a truly aerobic workout -- they keep you bobbing, weaving, and jumping amidst the punches and kicks, so that your heart rate stays elevated for most of the session. Other teachers may not have you move around as much, focusing more on proper form. Either way, a good class will leave you drenched in sweat and energized.

What's more, many people find kickboxing a great way to release stress. Civilized as we've all been not to hit each other (which is, of course, a good thing), we're still animals with some natural aggression. You may find that planting your heel in the torso of our water filled heavy bags 10 or 20 times leaves you feeling wonderfully tranquil.
